Haunting Tales: Texas Poltergeist Ranch
The first of many Haunting Tales comes from an old Unsolved Mysteries episode from the late nineties.
It tells the story of a apparent Poltergeist type haunting in the brush lands of Texas at the Three Partners Ranch, a three thousand acre piece of land in Central Texas. There, a very loud spirit would bang on the walls and pound across the floor as it stalked the halls of the ranch three men had bought as a business venture.
The idea was that the three business partners, Johnny Way, Mike Richards and Bobby [last name unknown] would buy the ranch out in the brush lands to be used as a den for local hunters.
However, when they spent the first night in the ranch house, the trio immediately knew they may have gotten more then they had bargained for.
All three men experienced the sound of heavy footsteps out in the halls of the ranch house. But that was mild compared to the banging that soon began in the walls at night, keeping one or all of three men awake. As Johnny Way recalls it, it was almost as if the ghost wanted them to never rest:
“This thing, whatever it is, it was almost as if it would not let you rest. It was almost as if it wanted to keep you up, all night.
Just about the time you would doze off, it would hit the wall..and when I say it would hit it, [I mean] it would clobber it.”
Way also claims that on a night he was alone in the ranch house, he awoke to hear a voice whispering “Johnny”. Way stated that the bedroom turned ice cold, to the point that Way was shivering under the blankets.
Bobby also had an interesting experience while in the house, when he awoke feeling like there was presence beside him on his bed:
“It had to be like two or three in the morning. The side of my bed smashed down…like someone had stepped on the side of it with their foot or sat on the side of it. Which really scared me because ‘he’ had never done that before.”
It was Mike Richards however who seemed to get the worst abuse form the entity as he not only felt the presence of the ghost in his room, but also had strong pain in his right knee, as if ‘someone was sitting on it’. He then tried to roll over but found that his right leg was locked in place as if being held down.
Mike Richards’ sisters also experienced these horrific sounds one night they stayed at the ranch, thinking they would find a rational explanation for the noises. Instead, they were scared out of their wits till dawn by the loud bangs on the walls, floors and ceiling of the Texas ranch house. They also claimed to have heard a mysterious ‘whistling’ like sound as well.
Interestingly enough, the Unsolved Mystery’s team brought in a parapsychologist named Dr. William Roll, who did indeed record many loud bangs and booms. He also claims to have recorded fluctuations in the magnetic fields when the loudest of these noises was occurring.
Doctor Roll theorizes that the noises might have been caused by magnetic fields that might cause the human brain to hallucinate, The probable creator of these magnetic fields, namely water rushing in-between great slabs of limestone deep in the Earth, would account for the loud noises.
So what is going on in that ranch house in the Central Texas brush lands? Is there a ghost haunting a lonely ranch house, or has nature turned the area into a natural hallucinogenic?
